PERKINS, Justin

[s. 597] : Born at West Springfield, Ma ., March 12, 1805; graduated at Amherst College, 1829; studied theology at And over; embarked September 21, 1833, as a mi ionary of the ABCFM, and one of the founders of the Nestor i an Mi ion at Urmia, Persia. Schools established by Dr. Perkins and Dr. Grant are now flourishing seminaries. Dr. Perkins translated the Scriptures and several religious books into Syriac. He visited the United States in 1842, accompanied by the Nestor i an bishop. Mar Yohannan, whose presence and addre es awakened a deep interest in the mi ion.
