VIATICUM

(Lat. a supply of something requisite for x tourney.) In Ecclesiastical usages, the sacrament given to a dying person. In ancient times both the sacraments appear frequently to have been given to the dying: namely, baptism to catechu me a i (hence termed c6odtov, or viaticum, by some Greek fathers I or unbaptised converts; the eucharist to those who were in communion with the church.
