(lau'da-num.) [A contraction from L. laudandum, a being praised.] (Med.) A tincture of opium, prepared by macerating the sliced or powdered drug in spirit, and filtering. It is a powerful ano dine and soporific, but must be given with extreme caution. [s. 530]
