NASUA

(Lat. nas us, a nose.) A genus of Plantigrade Mammal i a, so called from the remarkable elongation and upward curve of the nose. The species of this genus, N. rttfa, or red coati, and N. fusc a, or brown coati, are both natives of South America. They climb trees in pursuit of birds, and to rob their nests 4 they burrow for shelter at the foot of large trees, and often undermine tliem to such an extent that they arc liable to be overturned even by a slight wind.
