tragulus

[Mod. Lat., dim in. from Greek tragos a he-goat.] Zoology : The type-genus of Tragulidae (q. v.). They are the smallest of the recent Ungulates, and in outward appearance resemble the Agoutis rather than the rest of the order. The best known species are Tragulus javanicus , T. napu , T. kanchil , and T. stanley an us, from the Malay Peninsula, or the islands of the Indo-Malayan Archipelago; and T. memmina , from Ceylon and Hindu stan. trăg-ŭs, s.
