frænulum

[Dim. of Lat. frænum (q. v.).) Anat.: Anything small constituting a "bridle" or restraint to another structure, as frænulum cere bri, a slight median ridge between the posterior quadrigeminal tubercles of the cerebrum. (Quain. ) fræ-num ( pl. fræ'-na), s. [Lat.=a bridle.] Anat .: The name given to several membranous folds which bridle and retain certain organs- i . e., frænum linguæ , a fold of the mucous membrane, binding down the tongue. The Synovial fræna are folds or duplications of the synovial membrane pa ing from one portion of it to another.
