a mixture of resins and coloring matter used for taking the impre ions of seals on documents, for fastening packages, etc. The substance used for these purposes in the middle ages contained beeswax, Venice turpentine and vermilion as its ingredients but in modern S8.W. shellac takes the place of beeswax.
