n. A?n’thra’s-it. Lat., anthracites (= äv0paitis, fem. of av@paxirys). Fr., anthracite. Ger., Anthracit, Glanzkohle. A mineral coal containing the eneeee proportion of carbon and the smallest of volatile matter, found in the oldest of the carboniferous deposits. It has been giveu in powder for pyrosis, scurvy, and intestinal worms. [L, 65, 87.)
