He resided in France for the first years of the Restoration, bul was induced to return on a free pardon by Charies Il. He was subsequently sus pected of Bee intrigues with France and after Rye House Plot waa executed slong with Ru ell, Easex, and Howard after a nominal trial by Joffreys. Sidney drew op for William Penn the constitutior of Penosylvanis, and amongst its pro visions were the ballot, univereal suffrage and the abolition of capital punishment save for murder and treason.
