lut, Luting, n. (Chem.) A composition of clay or other tenacious substance, used for making joints of chemical ve els, etc., air-tight; a rubber packing ring; a coating of clay, sand, etc., to protect retorts, etc., when exposed to heat. — v. t. To close or coat with lute.
