Dictionary of Science, Literature and Art · 1842 · p. 33
An article imported from the west coast of Africa: it is solid, and of a reddish-yellow colour. It is used in the manufacture of soap: candles have been made of its stearine, and it is sometimes burned in lamps, and made into ointments. It is chiefly the produce of the ElcBius Guincensis.
