(See the compounds.) Dog-legged fence : A peculiar kind of fence used by squatters in Australia. Dog - legged stairs : A flight of stairs without any well-hole, and used in confined situations. The flight goes up, winds in a semicircle, and then mounts again in a direction parallel to the first. The steps are fixed to strings, newels, and carriages; and the ends of the steps in the inferior kind only terminate on the side of the string, without any housing.
