coniocyst (koniosist)

[ coniocysta (kon i-ō-sis'tä), n.; pl. coniocystæ (-tē). [NL.] Same as coniocyst. Coniomycetes (kon i-o-mi-sētēz), n. pl. [NL., (Gr. κόνις, dust, + μύκης, pl. μύκητες, mushroom.] A group of fungi in which the vegetative portion is inconspicuous and the spores are very numerous, borne singly or in chains on the ends of short filaments, and either naked or inclosed in a conceptacle; the dust-fungi. The fungi thus artificially grouped together are of widely different affinities, and are now referred mostly to the Uredineæ, Ustila gineæ, and Fungi Imperfect i.
