(Geneva, 1867),' Swi Protestant theologian; b. at Geneva, April 6, 1842 graduated M.A. at University of Geneva 1862; studied theology there until 1866; was ordained, 1867; continued his studies in Paris, Germany, England, and Scotland, until 1869; returned to Geneva in 1870, and, while auxiliary pastor in the National Church, lectured in the theological faculty of the university nearly every year upon New-Testament exegesis or ecclesiastical statistics, until in 1880 he became chief editor of the Semaine Religieuse, the organ of the evangelical party in the National Church. From 1873 to 1875 he was the Genevan correspondent of the Paris Christian is me au xixe sfecle.
