(Lat.), n. n. pl. se?f(ke?f)'a>-ia?. From dxav6a, a spine, and xeÿad, the head. acanthocéphales. Ger., Hakenwürmer. It., acantocefati, Sp., acantocéfalos. Thorny-headed worms; an order of scolecids characterized by a proboscis armed with hook-like proce es. There is but one genus, Echinorrhynchus, all the species of which are parasitic. {B, 27, 28.]
