[Pref. xantho-, and Gr. gennao =to engender, to produce.] Chem.: Hope's name for a light-yellow non-crys talline substance found in flowers, and supposed to be widely distributed throughout the Vegetable Kingdom. It is soluble in water, alcohol, and ether, and is turned yellow on the addition of an alkali. Clamor-Marquart called the same sub stance Resin of Flowers.
