(in'vŭr-ne ,) a seaport-town of Scotland, C. of a very mountainous co. of same name, is situated at the mouth and on both sides of the river Ne , 115 m. from Edinburgh, Lat. 57° 28′ 36″ N., Lon. 4° 13' 30" W. It has long been considered as the C. of the Scottish Highlands. Pop. 17,245. Inverne ', a co. of Nova Scotia, b. on the Gulf of St. Lawrence; C. Port Hood. Pop. 23,415. [s. 489]
