See chroma trope. chromotype, chromatype (kro'mō-tip, -matip), n. [ χρώμα , color, + τύπος , type.] 1. A photo-engraving proce for producing images adapted for hand-coloring. The image is printed from a rather thin negative upon a gelatin film sensitized with bichromate of pota ium. The film after development is transferred to a sheet of paper. The proce is employed chiefly for copying botanical specimens and engravings. Another point in the [heliotype] proce is the adaptation of it to chromo typic printing.
