[In Ital. amurca and morchia; Lat. amurca; Gr. ἀμόργη (amorge), ἀμόργης amorges ) the watery part which flows out when olives are pre ed; oil-lees: ἀμέργω (amergo) = to pluck or pull. (Never used of liquids.).] Oil-lees; a lye made of oil. "Though grain, that toucheth oil or fat, receiveth hurt, yet the steeping of it in the dregs of oil, when it beginneth to putrefy, which they call amurca , is thought to a ure it against worms."-Bacon: Nat.
