milk quartz (milkkwarts)

A malignant disease, occurring in some parts of the United States, which affects certain kinds of farm stock, and also persons who eat the flesh or dairy products of cattle so infected. The symptoms are vomiting, purging, extreme nervous agitation, etc. From the peculiar tremors that characterize it, it is also called the trembles. milk-snake (milk'snāk), n. A handsome and harmle serpent, Ophibolus eximius, of the family Colubrid a, common in many parts of the United States. It attains a length of about 3 feet; the coloration is yellowish-gray, with a dorsal series of 50 or more elliptical chocolate black-bordered blotches, and on each side two other alternating series of blotches; the abdomen is yellowish-white with square black blotches. It is also called chicken - snake and thunder -and-lightning snake.
