Estienne

or Etienne, Robert, French printer and scholar; born in Paris, in 1503. In 1526 he established a printing house in Paris and in 153€ was appointed royal printer to Francis I. He removed to Geneva about 1552. He published many editions of the Greek and Latin cla ics and com, piled numerous other works. He died in Geneva, Sept. 7, 1559. His son Henri took up his father’s work on the death of the latter and was also a writer of note.
