[= F. vétiver, vétyver (NL. vetiver i a ), vitivayr (Littré), a name given to the roots of the plant.] The cuscus-gra , Andropogon squarrosus ( A. muri cat us ), of India, the fibrous roots of which are made into tatties (see tatty2 ). The rootstock and rootlets have a strong persistent odor compared to myrrh, and yield vetiver-oil, of modern use in European perfumery. In India an infusion is used as a cooling medicine.
