JOHN, (fös'tür,) an English e ayist, B. in Yorkshire, 1770. Among his scholarly contributions to the "Eclectic Review," an E ay on the Evils of Popular Ignorance, takes a leading place. F., who D. in 1843, was styled by Sir J. Mackintosh, " one of the most profound and eloquent writers that England has produced." [s. 378]
