pl. [Lat. nom. pl. of natator = a swimmer; nato =to swim.] 1. Ornith.: Swimmers; an order of Birds, founded by Illiger, corresponding to the Palmipedes of Cuvier. It contains four families: Brevipennate, Long i penn atæ, Tot i palm atæ, and Lamellirostres. The order is a natural one, and founded on characteristics all can appreciate. They are aquatic, with or, inā-the-le , *nāth'-le , adv . [A.
