[As ventriloqu-y+ -ist.] One who practises or is skilled in ventriloquism; one who speaks in such a manner that his voice appears to come from some distant place or other quarter. I regard truth as a divine ventriloquist : I care not from whose mouth the sounds are supposed to proceed, if only the words are audible and intelligible. Cole ridge , Biog.
