An ornamental covering for the floor. The manufacture of carpets is carried on in great perfection in this country. The principal varieties are the Bru els, Axminster, Will on, Kidder minster, and Venetian. They are cenerally composed of linen and worsted. In some the pile is cut so as to give the carpet the character of velvet;as in the Will on carpets. Kidder minster or Scotch carpets are entirely fabricated of wool. [s. 212]
