TIRUWELLA

[s. 754] : A town in Travancore, India, situated 20 miles S. E. of Allepie. Station of the CMS (1849), with (1903) 1 mi ionary and his wife, 62 native worlcers, 40 day schools, 2 boarding schools, and 7,000 profe ed Christians, of whom 1,997 are communicants. The churches in this vicinity are joined in a Church Council of their own. A TJIDERES: village in Java, Dutch East Indies, situated about 50 miles S. E. of Cheribon. Station of the Netherlands Mi ion Union (1878), with (1903) 1 mi ionary, 3 native workers, 1 outstation, 1 hospital, and 191 profe ed Christians, of whom 79 are communicants. TOBAGO An island in the West Indies, lying northeast of Trinidad, of which it is a dependency. It is a rocky ma rising abruptly to a height of: 900 feet. There are several good harbors. It was settled by the Dutch in 16.54, taken by the French and finally by the English in 1763. Area, 114 square miles. Population (1892) 19,594. Mi ions are carried on in the islands by the Moravians (1790). 754
