[Pref. rho do-; Gr. chrōsís color, and suff. -ite ( Min.).] Min.: A mineral belonging to the group of anhydrous carbonates. Crystallization rhombohedral; also occurs globular, botryoidal, and ma ive. Hardne , 3.5-4.5; specific gravity, 34-3-7; luster, vitrecus; color, shades of rose-red when pure, darkred to brown; streak, white. Composition: Carbonic acid, 38-6; protoxide of manganese, 61.4; but the latter is frequently partly replaced by lime. magnesia, or protoxide of iron.
