BEST OR, ARTHUR EUGENE

(1879) President of the Chautauqua’ Institution, was born at Dixon, Ill. and educated at the University of Chicago. For two years he was profe or of history and pore science at Franklin College, diana, later going to the University of Chicago as a lecturer on political science. In 1905 he became a istant general director of the Chautauqua Institution, and afterwards director, and since 1915 he has been president of the Institution. During the war he was chairman of the committee on lecture and entertainments in training camps of the National War Work Council Y.M.C.A., and director of the speaking division of the Committee on Public Information.
