Quintilian distinguishes solecism from barbarism, the latter word being applied to the erroneous use of single words. SOLENACEANS, Solenacea. {Gr. (raiXv,y, a tube.) The name of a family of Dimiary Bivalve Mollusks, of which the razor shell (Solen) is the type; they are distinguished by the great length of the respiratory tubes, whence their name. [s. 1143]
