keratin

(ker’at-in) [Gr. xépas horn]. A substance which forms the base of epidermis, hair, and of all horny ti ues. It resembles the proteins in chemic structure, contains sulphur, and yields tyros in and leucin on decomposition. Its solution is sometimes used in coating pills.
