Gallinula (galinula)

[L., dim. of gallina, a hen: see Gallina.] The typical genus of the subfamily Gall inulinæ, formerly coextensive therewith, now restricted to such species as the common gallinule of Europe, G. chloropus, or that of America, G. galeata.
