Ferrier

One who has charge of a ferry-boat. Fer'rier, JANE, a Scottish novelist, B. at Edinburgh, 1782. She was an intimate friend of Sir Walter Scott, and of some of the most eminent literati of her day. She wrote three novels, which are still popular, viz.: Mar riage; The Inheritance; and Destiny, or the Chief's Daughter. They are vigorous and lively pictures of Scottish life and character. D. 1854.
