James Burnie, an Ameriean lawyer, born in Dumfrie hire, Scotland, Feb. 18, 1822; came to the United States when a youth, and settled in Kentucky. He was elected a Democratic peice to Congre in 1866, 1868, 1870, and 1872, and United States Senator in_1876, 1882, and 1888. He died in Washington, D. C., May 3, 1890.
