LAUREL

a city of Mi i ippi, in Jones co., of which it is the county seat. It is on the Mobile, Jackson and Kansas City, the Gulf and Ship Island, and the Queen and Crescent railroads. It is the center of an important commercial and manufacturing region. Its industries include cotton mills, railroad shops, wagon works, and lumber mills. The city has two parks, a city hall building and other public buildings. Pop. 1920, 1037.
