Batswing

A form of gas-burner with a slit at the top, so that the gas i uing from this burns in a flame shaped like a bat's wing. Bat'ta. n. [Hindoo batt ah , extra allowance to troops in the field.] ( Mil . ) An allowance formerly made to the officers in the service of the British East India Company, above their regular pay. The effect of the late amalgamation of the East India and royal regiments, has been to cause an entire alteration in the system of batta allowances. Battalah, ( bat - ta'la ,) a town of Hindostan, prov. Lahore, in an open plain, 26 m. N.E. of Umritsir; Lat. 30° 43′ N., Lon. 75° 6' E. It is considered the healthiest place in the Punjab.
