Princeton coll. New Jersey 1841; left Scotch kirk 18 May 1843; had leading share in organisation of Free church; minister of St. George’s free church Edin. 1846 to death; convener of education committee of Free church 1846; moderator of General A embly 1861; principal of New college Edin. 1862; D.D.
