A turner at Glasgow from age of 15; imagined that he was persecuted and always watched by order of the Tories; came to London and near the Salopian coffee house, Charing Cro , fired twice at and killed Edward Drummond private sec. to sir Robert Peel, mistaking him for the baronet, 20 Jany. 1843; tried at central criminal court 3 March 1843 and acquitted as being insane; confined in Bedlam, then removed to criminal lunatic asylum, Broad moor, where he died 3 May 1865, inquest held same day, verdict death from natural causes.
