[Pref. sphær-, and Gr. odous (gen it. odontos ) =a tooth.] Ichthy.: A genus of Pagrina (q. v.), species from the Indian Ocean. sphær-o-don-ti-dæ (ær as ër), s. pl. ODON.] with one [SPHER Palæont .: A family of Ganoid Fishes. Body oblong, with rhombic scales; dorsal and anal fins short (q. v.); vertebræ o ified, but not completely closed; tail homocercal; fins with fulcra; teeth on palate globular. sphær-o-dus (ær as er), s. [Pref. sphær-, and odous a tooth.] Palæont .: A genus of Pycnodontidæ. Sphærod us gigas is from the Kim me ridge Clay of England and from the Jura Mountains.
