anagyris

[In Port. anagyro; Ital. anigiride; Lat. an a gyros; Gr. ἀνάγυρις (απaguris) and ἀνάγυρος ( anaguros ): ἀνά (ana) == backwards; γύρος (guros) = a circle.] A genus of papilionaceous plants, one of the Cis tropical Eupodalyrieæ. The A. fætid a, a bush with trifoliolate leaves and yellow racemose flowers, has purgative properties, and its seeds are narcotic.
