It is colourle , pungent, fumes when it escapes into a humid air, and is rapidly absorbed by water. Its specific gravity is about 3"6; 100 cubic inches weighing nearly 112 grains. It is decomposed by water, and forms silica and hydrofluoric acid. It consists of 8 parts by weight of silicium, and 18 of fluorine, its equivalent (upon the hvdrogen scale) being 2G. ' [s. 471]
