BENEFICE

[ WAQF .] BENEFICENCE (Arabic سماحة‎ samāḥah ) is commended by Muḥammad as one of the evidences of faith. ( Mishkāt , Book i. c. i. part 3.) ʿAmr ibn ʿAbaratah relates: “I came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Prophet, what is Islām?’ And he said, ‘It is purity of speech and hospitality.’ I then said, ‘And what is faith?’ And he said, ‘Patience and beneficence . ’ ”
