pl. [Mod. Lat. talp ( a ); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff.- inæ.] Zool .: The typical sub-family of Talpide (q.v.). Clavicles and humeri very short and broad; large falciform bone in the manus. There are five genera, divided into two groups. A. Having front upper incisors much larger than second pair (New World Moles), Scalops, Scapanus, and Condylura. B. Front incisors scarcely larger than second pair (Old World Moles), Scaptonyx and Talpa.
