(gon-or-e’ah) (Gr. γι semen + ῥεῖν to flow]. A contagious catarr inflammation of the genital mucous membrane, mainly propagated by impure coitus, and due to a specific microdrganism, the gonococcus of Nei er. The disease is marked by pain, ardor uring, and a mucopurulent discharge; it may pa away without any serious result, or it may become chronic, involving the submucous ti ue and producing urethral stricture or leaving a chronic discharge called gleet. It is frequently attended with complications, such as prostatitis, epididymitis, orchitis, cystitis, etc. It may also produce arthritis and endocarditis. black g., gonorrhea in which the discharge is black or bloody.
