The force which causes an eiectric current to flow from one point in a circuit to another is known as the electromotive force, and is commonly abbreviated to E.M.F. It is due to a difference of potential at the two points, or in other words a difference in charged condition which causes a flow of electricity from a positive charge to a negative. The force is measured in volts. a volt being the force, or pre ure, required to cause a pa age of one ampere through a resistance of one ohm. The
