CALLA

(from kallos, beauty). S YN. Provenzalia. O RD. Aroideæ ( Araceæ ). A monotypic genus. The species is a native of Central and Northern Europe and North America, has creeping or floating stems, and cordate entire leaves. C. palustris is sometimes grown in collections of aquatics or bog plants; and, although, perhaps, hardly worth cultivating as a pot plant, is well worth a place in open ornamental waters. Richard i a æthiopica is frequently erroneously called Calla æthiopica.
