Larva

Immature young of an animal, especially when active and self-feeding, or remaining for a time in certain embryonic stages, after hatching from the egg: e.g., the caterpillar of butterflies, grubs of beetles, maggots of flies, planula of corals, nauplius and zoea of Crustacea, pluteus of sea urchins, veliger of sea snails, tad-pole of frogs.
