[MEN IS PER MALES.] měn-I-sper-mā-lēs, s. pl. [Mod. Lat. men is perm ( um ); Lat. masc. and fem. pl. adj. suff. -ales.] Bot.: An alliance of Diclinous Exogens, consisting of those with mono dichlamydeous flowers, superior disunited carpels, and an embryo surrounded by abundant albumen. It contains six orders: Monimiaceae, Atherospermacese, Myristic aceæ, Lardizabalaceæ, Schizandraceæ, and Menispermaceae (q.v.). měn-i-sper-māte, subst. [Modern Latin men is perm (um); Eng. suff. -ate.] Chem.: A salt of men i spermic acid. měn-i-sper-mic, a. [English men i sperm (ine); -ic.] Contained in or derived from menispermum (q. v.). men i spermic-acid, a. Chem.: A doubtful acid, said by Boullay to exist in the seeds of menispermum cocculus. It is described as crystalline, tastele , sparingly soluble in water, and capable of forming crystallizable salts with alkalies.
