Espartero

Baldomero, Duke of Vittoria, a Spanish statesman; born in 1792. The son of a wheelwright, he was educated for the priesthood, but joined the army as a volunteer in 1808 and fought against the Car lists. He was regent of Spain, 1841-43, 1854- 56. He died in 1879.
