HAUPT, LOUIS MUHLENBERG

(1844), an American civil engineer, 0. in Gettysburg, Pa. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1867. After several years of service in the army he resigned to become engineer of Fair mount Park, Phila. He was profe or of civil engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, from 1872 to 1892, when he resigned to engage in private practice. He was a member of the Nicaragua Canal Commi ion and of the Isthmian Canal Commi ion, and was chief and consulting engineer for many important projects including several ship canals. He was the author of many books on engineering and kindred subjects and invented several devices for reclaiming land.
